because the raven isnt always the best tool for doing every mission the fastest. i use an abaddon and a raven, and while the raven is easy and profitable, it isnt as fast as my abaddon for certain missions, and is a lot less fun. while im not as experienced as leandro, id say he's got the right idea in terms of varying your skillset to at least one other race besides caldari (although i am training up for large pulse/beam spec because i do enjoy the laser lightshow that amarr ships put out).
Ok name me those missions that can be done faster with an apoc than with a raven (or cnr expecially) ? How much faster you do them ? And now tell me how much extra extra-skillpoints you need to fly an appoc effectively (bs skill, weapons, armortangk etc.) in order to be faster than the raven ? Especially if you use all that extra sp to increase your ravens damage, do you still think it's "the worst thing" not to train for the apoc/domi, as a dedicated missionrunner ?
Pretty much every Blood, Sansha and Drone mission can be done faster in an Abaddon than in a Raven, even a CNR. In case of drones, the difference is very noticeable. I am guessing that at least some Serpentis, Guristas and EoM can be done faster in railboats as well. Torps 5 and cruise 5 together cost roughly 1.8 mil sp, and with that you should be able to get one other race up to acceptable level. And being able to fly one other races set of ships (including frigs, cruisers and battlecruisers) is much more desireable than 5% extra damage from my missiles. At least in my book. Also a tremendous boon in PvP to be able to always fly what is needed. And it saves you a few tears when whatever you singlemindedly devoted all your skillpoints to gets hit by the inevitable nerfbat.
Speccing is really only worth it if you plan to embark on a career based on a lot of solo PvP and maybe fleet combat. In all other cases the drawbacks outweigh the benfits imho.
The one thing to note with flying an Abbadon against Sansha's Nation is that they use tracking disruption like nobody's business. The Blockade takes forever against them because I need to take out the 4-8 tracking disruptor cruisers one by one to even have a chance of doing damage to anything else. Tech II drones help of course, but your turrets have a tracking of about 0.0001 rad/sec until you take most of them out, meaning they'll do no damage at all to anything with a transversal greater than 1 m/s.
I fly an Abbadon exclusively in missions and can solo almost every mission without any problems. My tank can take virtually anything thrown at it. Recon 1 of 3 is a bit of a shock, but since you only need to tank to the gate, rather than kill anything, it's still doable.
